5-17-
OVV-EDT
had another solid weekend of racing this past weekend, Lexington Stage
Race. OVV-EDT members Ryan Bartholomy, John Fulkerson, Austin Hicks, Keith
Lucas, Broc Porter and Jake Zimmerman made the trip. Efforts of mention -
Austin smokin to a 4th place finish in the TT, Broc had a super ride in
his first TT finishing 15th. Saturday's 3/4s race - OVV was in protection
mode for Austin, unfortunately Austin was over-come by cramping during the
last part of the race. So, Broc became the protected one. The sprint
finish looked like this - Jake 6th, Broc 13th, Lukie and Austin finished
in the field. Lukie was once again caught up in a crash early.

4-26 - OVV races in the Georgia sunshine! Jake and John raced in Athens, GA on Saturday. Jake qualified for the "Big Show" in the Athens Twilight Crit finale' that evening. John only wanted to recover from his day in the "HOUSE of PAIN". Super efforts by both racers. Jake had a huge showing, finishing 6th in the mornings qualifier. OVV had a great time in GA. We also visited the Tour de GA for a few days. Visiting our pro-racing friends from the Heath-Net Team. A race report is coming...check out the photo gallery for the action!

A full report of the entire weekend will be posted soon! 4-19 - Ohio Valley Velo-EDT - OVV-EDT raced race number 7of the KY/IN Spring Training Series at Louisville, KY. Jonathan Porter "JP" scored a well deserved win in the Cat3/4s race. OVV-EDT's race plan was unspoiled this time! Road Captain Chris Allen suffered some untimly bad luck as a flat tire ruined his chance to play a part in the end, CA walked his bike across the line in 7th place. CA along with JP were apart of a 7 man break away that formed on the last lap. Kieth Lucas finished with the rest of the main group - still holding on to his second place in the overall standing. Tim Johnson "TJ" had his best race to date sprinting for a 5th place in the 4/5s race. Super efforts!

4-12-08 Ohio Valley Velo-EDT raced race number 7of the KY/IN Spring Training Series at Louisville, KY. Mother Nature had her way on Saturday with breezy and cold conditions. OVV had a strong finish. Lukie and Jake double dipped in the HOUSE OF PAIN racing two races - Cat 3/4s and Cat 1-2-3s. Super efforts by all! Fallen Heroes Circuit race was within Iriquois Park. The race loop was a rolling one with a fast finish. In the 3/4 race OVV lined with EDT members Chris Allen, John Fulkerson, John Porter, Keith Lucas and Jake Zimmerman. OVV's intentions were to keep Keith's overall second place in the series intact. JP has been feeling it too...with strong finishes in his last two showings. Road Captain CA was entertaining his family during this week's school spring break. CA had taken on a skin rash - plus only being able to only get spin-class sessions in for training all week were certainly going put CA's visit to the HOUSE of PAIN early. Chewy has been getting over a bit of sickness as well as Zman. Jake took a break advantage of a break in his collegiate racing to race with the team. Mother Nature had her way Saturday too. The cool temperatures and slight breeze made for a fridge start. I had planned for standing in the cold. Chewy asked me if I was cold... as I was applying my outer layer of clothing, I replied with a grin "I won't be". Tim "TJ" Johnson was going to test his legs by racing the Master's race. TJ has been logging some good training. As always, the first lap was fast. Zman was the first to whittle the group down. Z even put some of his teammates in trouble. Barbasol was the instigators first. Forming a gap which soon formed into a break away of three. OVV missing out. The lap times were very constant and the lead trio looked as if they were going to be sprinting for 1-2-3. OVV and Mullet Ranch had a late surge, but came up short. Barbasol's Mitchell Kersting out sprinted Mesa Cycle's Graham Dewart for the win. OVV had to settle for fighting for a field sprint win. The speed of the finish was really fast. The group was coming off a down hill run just before the finish. Barbasol's Joey Klarer smoked the finish, with time to signal! Lukie had to settle for 10th, Zman 11th JP and Chris played it safe with a smooth finish. Series leader Eric Barnett was finished 3rd in the field sprint, gaining a few points on Lukie...Uggg. Another super team effort from OVV, Seriously the most aggressive teams in the series. Team Louisville had a strong team ride too. In the Master's race TJ would show his early fitness in the first few laps, showing what HOUSE OF PAIN is all about! TJ had s great race just missing out, settling for a top 20 finish. He was kissing the pave' afterwards... Great effort by the "Sand-Bagger". It was great to see a former OVV-EDT bad-ass Chris Cecil at the race. Chris is a serious competitor. This was Chris's first race in a few years. He looked like he never quite racing. Kuddos to Chris, he finished his Cat 4/5 effort with a top 20 field finish. That raced ended in a pile up just after the finish line. Chris narrowly avoided the crazy crash. Great effort for Chris. We hope to see him out racing more. In what it appeared to be the main event, OVV-EDT's Lukie and Jake were going to for sure go to the HOUSE OF PAIN. Texas Road, Calastoga, Barbasol, Team Bolla as well as Commonwealth Eye Surgery were on the start list. Road House were sporting their new kits and Eye-candy-ed Fuji. OVV friend Sklyes Keith looked like a PRO TOUR dude.
The race time was one hour. Lukie and Jake were not satisfied with there earlier race so they signed up for the ride. Just watch it all go down and be there if you can. The race was fast. Many attempts were made to get away. Lukie and Jake making the cut. Both staying near the front. The final lap featured a crash on the back side of the course. Taking some of the fast finishers with it...one included OVV's Lukie. Jake was there to contest the sprint finish, in which he skated in with a 6th place. Lukie wasn't hurt in the crash. He was one of the fortunate ones. He was really pumped after the race knowing he had made the cut and was going to be there. Super efforts by both boys. Be sure to check out the latest photo in our gallery. Next up for OVV-EDT is the series final weekend of the series. With two days of racing and double points for each days, it should be a great end to what has been a super series for OVV-EDT. Thanks to all of our sponsors and supporters!!! Stay tuned........ 4-1-08 Ohio Valley Velo-EDT scores podium finishes with Kiersta winning the women's race and Keith Lucas racing to a strong 3rd! OVV-EDT raced race number 6 of the KY/IN Spring Training Series in their home town of Owensboro, KY. The Cat-3 Team captain Chris Allen said it was the best team effort thus far. The Cat-4/5 Team captain Tim Johnson said that he and Chad did all they could to bring something home for OVV, coming up a bit short. It was very cool to see the Hayden brothers racing their bicycles. Nicky finished a strong 3rd place in the 4/5s race Tommy was right behind his brother finishing in 4th. The Hayden's are known for their aggressive style of racing on the motor bikes, they also are very strong cyclists as well. |

mph. The course was a "D" shaped one. Both the Cat 3/4 race and the

The boys started with 30 plus entries. On the first lap, one third of the field had lost contact with the main group. By the third lap a break away had formed. OVV's Jake Zimmerman and a lone Barbasol racer attempted to bridge the gap to the break away. The attempt lasted a few laps before Jake decided that they were not making a dent in to gap. OVV made many efforts to bring the break away back, with no success.
The break away was looking serious and gaining time on the main group. OVV settled in to field sprint mode, looking to Lukie and even JP, who was looking strong in the pack. Jake was there as well. Broc "The Finisher" was still a bit sick but was still in the mix too, never count Broc out.
In the end it was OVV sprinting for the field sprint. The last lap OVV attempted to shell out some of the remaining group. The sprint saw the head-wind make the racer look as though they were sprinting in slow motion. In the end Keith Lucas had to settle for 7th and John Porter 11th, Broc Porter 16th, Jake 23rd and Chris Allen 24th place.
In the women race Kiestra started with a field of 15 gals. With in several laps a break away of 5 were off the front, one included OVV's Kiersta. Texas Road House's Tracy Tolson hammered out a solo victory. Kiersta settled for a third place. Kiersta is still learning the ropes of road racing. Watch-out she is a fast learner!
Tim Johson was the lone OVV racer to race the Cat 4/5 race. TJ put in a serious effort in. He has been putting in some serious training mileage. Look for TJ to in May! OVV had another great weekend of racing! Next up for OVV is race number 6 of the KYANA Spring Training Serious in Owensboro next week. Look out for a bit of some home cookin! |
